The Pub at the Heart of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct

The Rubber Chicken Comedy Pub in South Melbourne has long been a popular spot for live music and comedy. But since the end of Covid, it has also become a hub for the city’s arts scene.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s arts precinct, located between the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) at the South Melbourne Town Hall, and the Sturt Street quarter consisting of the National Gallery of Victoria, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACAA), The Melbourne Theatre Company, and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, The Rubber Chicken has become a convenient and popular spot for artists, performers, and creatives to gather.

The pub hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including comedy nights, open mic nights, live music performances and even comedy workshops. It also has a dedicated space for art exhibitions, and the walls are adorned with original paintings from local Melbourne artists.

Morry Morgan, the pub’s owner, is passionate about supporting the arts and believes that The Rubber Chicken can play a vital role in the city’s cultural landscape. He is committed to providing a space where artists can come together to create and share their work. In fact, many of the staff are themselves artists, including a former theatre cast member of ‘Harry Potter and The Cursed Child’, award winning comedians, musicians and arts students at the local Victorian College of Arts (VCA) and JMC Academy.

The Rubber Chicken is a welcoming and inclusive space, and it is open to everyone. Whether you are a fine artist, a live performer, or simply someone who enjoys good food and great company, you are sure to find something to love at The Rubber Chicken.
