Perth born James Masters cut his comedy teeth in Vancouver, Canada. A hot room, a serendipitous moment, and before James knew it, he was a professional Canada-based comedian, albeit a little rougher around the edges than today’s Australia-based comic.

In this podcast episode you’ll hear how accents and cultural differences are an early comedians advantage, and create a shroud of forgiveness unique to ‘foreign’ comedians. James also shares how to ‘write stand-up like a Nazi’, his 1:6 ratio of great to crap content, how he remembers his sets, word economy, and the importance of self promotion.

And if you’re enjoying these podcasts, and would like to become part of a comedy community, we’ve launched our School of Hard Knock Knocks Podcast Community group on Facebook. It’s absolutely free to join and full of advice.
