Hard Knock Knocks alumni, Laurence Driscoll, has been nominated for ‘Best Newcomer‘ at the 2024 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The two-time RAW Comedy Victorian State Finalist and So You Think You’re Funny Edinburgh semi-finalist performed a full run of his ‘The Prodigay Son’ (notice the pun?) show. Veteran comedian, Claire Hooper, helped produce the show.
Laurence Driscoll’s debut solo show tells of a lad growing up in rural Australia and his journey to the city as a gay refugee. The 60 minute show is a celebration of family, resilience, and the healing power of laughter. His charm and wit have made him one of the most popular new voices on the Melbourne comedy scene, and ultimately helped him stand out as the 2024 ‘Best Newcomer’.
Since graduating from the Hard Knock Knocks comedy school in May 2019, Laurence has built a solid reputation on the Melbourne comedy scene. He has shared the spotlight with comedy legends including Jimeoin, Dave Hughes, Sammy J, Celia Paquola, Dave O’Neil, Claire Hooper and Brad Oakes. Laurence has also supported the Hard Knock Knocks comedy school twice as a ‘returning alumni’, performing alongside veteran comedians Andy Goodone and Greg Fleet.
Funny, witty and a little filthy have been used to describe Laurence, and we at the Hard Knock Knocks congratulate this Melbourne International Comedy Festival ‘Best Newcomer’ nomination.
